Twycross Zoo, Atherstone

A fantastic wildlife centre with lots for families to do!

Located around 30 minutes drive from the centre of Birmingham is a wildlife oasis, education and conservation centre where you can meet all sorts of creatures great and small.

Twycross Zoo in Atherstone is home to around 500 animals including mammals, reptiles and birds, and they are a renowned World Primate Centre. There is also plenty for families including play areas, a Kids Club and plenty of special events. If you havenít paid a visit, here is what is on for families at Twycross Zoo.

Meet the animals

Over 500 animals and 125 different species including giraffes, penguins, meerkats and leopards.
Household pets including goats, guinea pigs, rabbits and ferrets, plus alpacas and donkeys.
Other animals include chimpanzees, giraffes, meerkats and the Northern White-Cheeked Gibbon.
Also houses a large range of birds, including lorikeets, which you can hand feed!

Butterfly Forest

Twycross Zoo has a fantastic, 576m2 tropical butterfly exhibit which you can wander through and gaze at these beautiful little creatures.
Provides a fascinating insight into the life of the butterfly, and how it evolves from egg, to pupae, to caterpillar and butterfly.

Learn about conservation

Twycross zoo is involved in various conservation projects and research, which you can read about here.
The zoo also has a number of recycling and sustainability projects on the go, including Conservation in Action, in which you can help support sustainable practices!
Simply bring along your own coffee cup or purchase a reusable cup or slush cup and you can help the zoo in these sustainability efforts.

Soft play and outdoor play

A jungle-themed soft play area with four levels to explore!
There are separate sections for babies, toddlers and children aged 5 and over.
Suitable for children under 12 and under 148cm in height.
The soft play is open daily between 10am to 5pm with the last admission at 4:30pm.
£5 for all children aged 12 months and over, and £2 for Twycross Zoo members.
You donít have to enter the zoo to visit the soft play area.
The zoo also has an outdoor play area.

Safari cars

Safari cars are available for children aged 3 to 10 years.
The kids can take the wheel while parents and carers control the brakes from the back!
Available weekdays from 10:30am to 3pm and weekends 10am to 5:30pm.
Fees are from £5 over car.

Wet íní Wild Park

The Wet íní Wild play area is open from Spring.
It is a great place for the kids to cool down on a hot summer day!
Food outlets located close by.

Family Events

The zoo runs a number of events during the year, including Halloween and Christmas.
Special events include the Great Brick Safari, which will run until early January 2019.

Food and drink

Twycross Zoo has plenty of places to eat and drink.
Options include The Vines Restaurant, Vine Cafe, The Catch Fish Bar, Explorer Coffee House and various kiosks selling sweet treats and drinks.

Cost: Adults £21.95, children £16.95, concessions £19.50 - prices include voluntary donation. You can get a 10% discount when you book online. Children under 2 years are free.
