Sandwell Valley Country Park, West Bromwich

A fantastic day out for families, with an adventure playground and sporting facilities.

Located just outside of Birmingham’s city centre, Sandwell Valley Country Park is a hive of activity for parents with children of all ages. It is within walking distance of West Bromwich town centre and is open all year round – there are farms to visit, an adventure playground, children’s activities and various sporting facilities. The park makes a fantastic day out for families with children of all ages, and here’s what’s on offer.

Children’s Adventure playground

Sandwell Valley Country Park has a fantastic adventure playground for the kids and includes lots of rope play, towers to climb, a tripod swing and slide.

Sandwell Park Farm and Forge Mill Farm

Sandwell Park Farm is a fully restored, working Victoria Farm and is home to a number of rare and endangered breeds of animals including cattle and pigs, plus sheep and birds. Fees apply to enter the farm.

Forge Mill Farm is home to a number of farm animals, plus a farm trail, children’s playground and during the summer months, an exciting maize maze to navigate. Admission to the farm is free.

Seasonal events and activities
Sandwell Valley Park runs a number of seasonal activities and events, including at Easter time, Halloween and Christmas events, including Santa’s Grotto.

School holiday activities and other events

The park also hosts a packed programme of events during the school holidays, along with conservation volunteering and weekly walks during the year, plus craft fairs, a summer school holidays fun fair and large-scale shows and performances.

Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Visitor Centre (RSPB)

If you’d like to know more about wildlife conservation or take part in some wildlife-based family activities, the RSPB visitor’s centre is located in the heart of the nature reserve. They offer self-guided activities for families, including pond dipping, plus paths and trails to follow.

Walking, cycling and horse riding trails

Sandwell Valley Country Park has lots of walking, cycling and horse riding trails and is known as one of the most picturesque places in the West Midlands. You can hire bikes – including trailers for the little ones – at Valley Cycles and there are a number of mountain bike trails to conquer.

Golf for all!

Fancy a spot of golf? Sandwell Valley offers Pitch and Putt at a price of £6 for adults and £4 for under 16s and over 60s. There is also a nine hole Crazy Golf course which is suitable for all ages and abilities and you can collect putters and balls from the Golf Kiosk or Valley Cycles. The cost is £2.50 per round for adults and £2 per round for children under 16. There is also the newly added FootGolf, an 18 hole course which is a mix of golf and football!

Other sporting facilities

If you love tennis or football, Sandwell Park has tennis courts and football pitches available for use.

Fun transport activities

Take a ride on a tractor or trailer rides, or take in the breathtaking views aboard the open top bus ride!


High Ropes Adventure Course

If you have children who simply have no fear, then kids aged five and over can have a go on the High Ropes Adventure Course. While the ropes stand a huge 40 foot above ground level, there is a special 10 foot course for kids aged between five and eight. The course also includes a climbing tower, wobbly logs, bridges and a high-speed zip wire.

The country park is open from 7.30am until dusk throughout the year. The visitors centre is open from 10am to 4:30pm. Entry fees are listed below, and include entry into the visitor centre, farm, tea rooms and gardens are.
Adults - £2.50
Children and over 60s - £2.00
Family ticket (two adults, up to three children) - £9.50
Family ticket (one adult and up to three children) - £7.00
Children under five are free
