Escape Live Birmingham

A fantastic escape room activity for older kids, teens and adults!

When you’ve got older children and teenagers to entertain during the school holidays or on weekends, finding things to do can be tough. If you’re looking for a fun activity that older kids are sure to get a kick out of, pay a visit to Escape Live in Birmingham.

Escape Live is an ‘escape room’ challenge that has quickly become one of the city’s most popular venues since it opened in 2015. If you haven’t taken part in anything like this, the concept is simple – you are locked in a room for one hour and need to solve a bunch of clues in order to solve the mystery and escape the room.

There are four different games available – Room 13, The Lab, Dr Wilson’s Office and Time Machine. Dr Wilson’s Office and The Lab require children to be aged 10 and over to take part, while the minimum age to take part in Room 13 is 13 years. Children aged 8 years and over can have a go at the Time Machine game, and all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Younger children may struggle with the clues and it’s unlikely they will appreciate the thrill of solving the clues and uncovering the mystery in a given timeframe.

Each game has a distinct theme. In the Time Machine, you will hop into a time machine and travel through time! Dr Wilson’s Office involves solving the mystery of who has been threatening Dr Wilson, while in The Lab, a scientific research lab has been hit by a toxic gas leak and participants have to isolate the affected areas. Room 13 is not for the squeamish or faint-hearted – you must solve the clues to release a young girl trapped in a locked room!

An escape room experience is unlike any other – it requires everyone to work together to solve the clues. Everyone plays their part and even if you are a little bit sceptical top start with, the adrenalin soon kicks in and you all get to work to get out of there!

If you are claustrophobic, or pregnant and prone to nausea – like I was when I took part – just let the staff know before you start the game – you can leave the room if you need to take a break. If you don’t manage to get out of the room in the given 60 minutes, the Games Master can walk you through the clues, or you can come back at a later date and have another go.

Prices start from £15 per person, with the games available for groups of between 2 and 6 people, although there are opportunities for larger groups to take part in the Escape Live experience. Bookings are essential.

Escape Live is not just a fantastic experience for children and teenagers – it’s also a fun activity for a hen’s or stag night, a birthday party and even corporate team building. So go on! See if you have what it takes to escape!
