Sometimes, you might just feel like taking a trip to outer space and escaping life on earth! If you fancy a day trip from Birmingham to learn about the universe and galaxy, the National Space Centre is just an hour drive away.

This top day trip from Birmingham is perfect for families who want to learn a little more about the solar system.

Discover six galaxies, including the iconic Rocket Tower and the UK’s largest domed planetarium, crammed full of space suits, satellites and meteorites. Here’s what’s on for families.

The National Space Centre has a number of fascinating exhibitions, all showcasing the wonders of the universe, which are listed below.

Into Space – this exhibition features a mock up of the International Space Station’s Columbus Module, plus astronauts and their spacesuits!
Rocket Tower – this 42-metre high tower can be seen even from the outside of the centre! It houses rockets, moon rock and the Apollo Lunar Lander.
Space Oddities – come and see some hidden gems from the lesser known stories of space, or use the interactive touch table to learn more about each item.
Orbiting Earth – this exhibition provides information about satellite navigation, weather forecasts and disaster warnings. You can see the impact of an asteroid and have a look through the Weather Pod.
The Universe – this is the spot to explore and learn the secrets of the universe. You can learn about SETI, the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence and even watch the Big Bang.
Our Solar System – learn about all the planets in our solar system!

Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium

Entry to the centre also includes entry to the Planetarium.
The Planetarium uses the latest video technology, sound and computer animation to bring a fantastic, full-dome cinematic experience.
Learn about the stars or take a tour of the night sky.
’We Are Stars’ is suitable for people of all ages, while ‘Tour of the Night Sky’ is suitable for children aged five and over.

Regular Events

Runs a number of regular events, including school holiday and half term exhibits.
There are even regular visits from astronauts!

Boosters Café

A fantastic pit stop during your journey through space!
Enjoy coffees, teas, cold drinks and ice cream milkshakes.
Sells a range of sandwiches, snacks and freshly made soups.

Birthday Parties

Available for children aged 5 to 14 years.
Dedicated party space.
Hot or cold lunch included.
Prices start from £15 per child and £4 for children under 5.
Minimum of 8 children required and are only available on the weekends.

Cargo Bay Shop

Offers a range of space-themed interactive toys, books and games.
You will also find telescopes!

Tickets are £14 and £11 for concessions and children aged 5 to 16 years. Children under 5 are free and a full day of parking is £3. They are open every day between 10am and 5pm.
