This week I am bringing you information and pictures about the beautiful birthing centre based in West Birmingham known as the Halcyon Birthing Centre. This is a purpose built birth centre that was designed with comfort for birthing. This centre can accommodate women who have had a low risk pregnancy. The Halcyon suite is a little hidden gem and I wanted to share with you what I had found.

The Halcyon Birth Unit

The Halcyon Birth centre offers a home away from home birth experience with the tranquility of lots of comfort options. Being a three roomed unit all fully furnished with a birthing pool that can easily accommodate your partner to, bean bags, birth balls, en-suite shower rooms, comfy foam based beds, beautiful lighting to bring a soft tranquil glow to your space and the rooms are so big their is more than enough space to move around and be active in your labour.

Other added benefits of this wonderful space are;
A kitchen that has food and drink for all as well as a beautiful garden space for you to enjoy should you want some fresh air as you labour.
Birth partners and your family are also welcome at the birth centre so if you want your children with you as you labour this is allowed.
The staff their can also use aromatherapy oils, so if you want to enhance your birthing experience you can do this.

The centre is very supportive of women who are preparing for birth using Yoga, HypnoBirthing, Doula or any other holistic therapy. The centre offers a range of other services such as antenatal clinics, reflexology and parent craft class every other Saturday. The centre can accommodate women from anywhere across the city of Birmingham and Sandwell too. I always encourage women to go and have a look at several units before they decide on where they want to give birth. The centre is also open on a Tuesday afternoon 2pm to 4pm for you to go and have a look around and talk to a member of staff.

The centre can offer Entonox (gas and air) and pethidine for pain relief. The relaxed environment that is truly blissful helps contribute to you feeling safe and comfortable in your labour.

Michelle, a midwife based at Halcyon said I really enjoy working here, we just wish it was used more. Some women can usually be unsure about standalone birth units, however Halcyon is situated two mile from City hospital should circumstances in labour arise."

If you are currently expecting and think this might be an option for you please contact The Halcyon Unit directly.
