Avoncroft Museum

Take a walk into the West Midland's past at this unique museum.

The West Midlands is absolutely packed full of historically important buildings, museums and artefacts. There is the Black Country Living Museum, the Transport Museum in Wythall and the RAF Museum in Cosford.

Over in Stoke Heath, around 18 miles from the Birmingham City Centre, is Avoncroft Museum, a unique heritage spot that houses more than 30 restored buildings and structures that are dedicated to preserving the past.

Set on 19 acres of land, Avoncroft Museum is a fantastic way to explore the past. Just some of the attractions include a traditional cider orchard, wildflower meadow and period gardens. The buildings themselves house agricultural machinery, vehicles and tools, artefacts, clothing and furnishings, plus photograph collections. Visitors can also meet costumed historical figures at this highly interactive attraction! Here are just some of the fascinating activities at Avoncroft Museum.

Historical Buildings to Visit

The Museum has a unique collection of historical buildings and structures. This includes the National Telephone Kiosk Collection, airing shelter, medieval town house, an inn, granary, windmill – there’s even a cell block!

Family learning activities

Avoncroft has plenty of fantastic activities for families. You can download an activity sheet, including a fascinating trail that will take you into the lives of the rich and the poor! You can read more about these activity sheets here. There are also colouring sheets, family events and workshops and courses on offer.

Miniature Railway

Avoncroft Museum is home to the Bromsgrove Society of Model Engineers miniature railway! Trains run on Tuesdays from March to October, plus selected event days. Tickets are just 50p each, which helps fund train and track maintenance.

Edwardian Tea Room

Fancy a snack or a spot of tea? The charming Edwardian Tea Room serves a variety of hot drinks, cakes and slices (including gluten-free) plus afternoon tea and light lunches. They also offer delightful afternoon teas!

Children’s Play Area

The children’s play area has a quirky giant apple climbing frame! There is rope play and log steps up to the structure and a rope bridge. There is also a timber windmill play structure and a boardwalk leading through around the chapel.
